Wildflowers, Fireflies, and Hummingbirds - A May Song & Dance
A May Full Moon Song & Dance
"I wake up in a new world every day, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
I usually sing this song by Willie Nelson at every gig. I love his way with words. The first line goes like this, “If we’re backing up, it’s just to get a running start.” I smile every time I sing it and look around to see if anyone is listening. I want to say “Did you hear that? Isn’t that a great line?” And then there’s the line about waking up in a new world every day. Yes, I’m still smiling.
A few days ago I saw the first fireflies of the season, and yesterday I saw two hummingbirds. I also just finished reading the new book by Lucinda Williams, Don't Tell Anybody the Secrets I Told You, and I’m discovering a vast catalog of songs by Gordon Lightfoot. I love how life has a wonderful way of bringing new things to my attention and surprising me with specks of beauty and ribbons of truth that speak to my heart.
If we were sitting across from each other at the table, these little things are what I would tell you about. For instance in the car this week, I told Mickey that Lucinda Williams never learned to type and that she wrote everything out with pen and paper including her new book. I was fascinated by this new fact—like when Mickey told our grandson that sometimes crabs were blue. It made me stop and think. I thought about when I learned to type. It was at summer school following 3rd grade. I loved typing and couldn’t wait to go to class. Lucinda never had this opportunity.
And then there’s Gordon Lightfoot. When I heard that he passed I decided I would play one of his songs at our next show. A couple of months ago I watched a documentary about him. During the film, the interviewer played a recording of one of his songs, and Gordon said, “Don’t play that song. I hate that song.” I suddenly felt like I knew him and I understood. I’ve also created songs and written things I no longer love or that contradict what I write on a different day. That’s the beauty of life. It’s always changing. We grow, learn new things, change our point of view, and keep bouncing along this bumpy road of discovery. And the best part is that we all get to travel together..
Moments of Gratitude, Love & Awe
A surprise visit from my son and grandson Kaston was definitely a highlight. I wrote about this in more detail in my Sunday Best blog post Unwrapping Gifts of Time.

Dennis is learning what it takes to be a band dog. It's not all fun and games 😂
I've been gathering photos and ideas for the Simmer lyric video for months. But when it came time to put it all together I ended up only using a few. I felt like the song wanted me to keep it simple. So I did.
Let it simmer
'til you feel it in your bones
In its time
The beauty will unfold
Possibility
Needs some room to breathe
It’s funny how learning incidental things about someone makes me feel like I know them. But what I think actually happens is that I learn something about myself. I hope through sharing my life with you that you not only get to know me better but that you see yourself and the beauty of you.
Happy full Flower Moon. Yes, wildflowers are blooming everywhere!!
All my love,
Trisha
