Last week, I shared the lyrics to a new song I was writing. Here are the revised lyrics and a video of me singing it, just in time—a Christmas song for Christmas. Merry Christmas.
A Winter Bird on My Christmas Tree
It was a gift from my grandmother I stored it in a box
I unpacked it each December and I placed it near the top.
A white winter bird—in a styrofoam nest
Specks of silver glitter would fall from its wings
Like snowflakes from heaven, they covered everything
Tiny sparkles seemed to bring out the best
Between branches of green and twinkling lights
Feathers of silver, that shone so bright
It gave me a reason to believe
In magic on Christmas Eve
That winter bird up on the tree
A winter bird on my Christmas tree
Weathered and worn, I kept it for years
That ornament just had a way of easing my fears
With peace and good memories—of Christmas past
A keeper of time I could hold in my hand
It helped me remember and to understand
Good memories—are meant to last.
Chorus
Between branches of green and twinkling lights
Feathers of silver, that shone so bright
It gave me a reason to believe
In magic on Christmas Eve
That winter bird up on the tree
A winter bird on my Christmas tree
One day it flew away, like birds will do
To share its goodwill with somebody new.
Between branches of green and twinkling lights
Feathers of silver, that shone so bright
It gave me a reason to believe
In magic on Christmas Eve
That winter bird up on the tree
A winter bird on my Christmas tree
Lovely. Those memories bring joy to my heart. Thank you
